Lauric Acid and Immunity
Approximately 50% of the fatty acids in coconut fat are lauric acid. When digested, it forms monolaurin, a substance that has shown antimicrobial properties in clinical settings (Enig, 1996).
Fatty Acid Composition
| Acid Type | Percentage |
|---|---|
| Lauric Acid (C12) | 49% |
| Myristic Acid (C14) | 18% |
